Thailand native Alex Face (born Patcharapol Tangruen) studied architecture at Bangkok’s King Mongktut Institute of Technology and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine and Applied Arts. His strong interest in architecture led him to explore the streets and alleys of Bangkok for abandoned buildings, buildings that he eventually used as a canvas to develop his street art and the medium of choice for his creative expression. Then Alex Face became a well-known graffiti artist, and his signature characters called ‘Mardi’. Mardi’s rabbit suit not only symbolizes the innocence of children, but also implies children a disadvantaged role in society. Thus, Alex Face’s works connect more social issues related to children. As for the third eye in the middle of Mardi's forehead, Alex Face describes that it acts as a secret observer to witness tragic events in society. Besides, the third eye derives from traditional beliefs in Southeast Asia, which believes something we can only feel but cannot see. Alex Face considers himself an artist with a social conscience, so he hopes that his creation can touch the spiritual and unknown realm.
